IMPERIALS LEAVING. WAR DANCES.(Special to Times). Auckland, last night. Taranaki te Ua, well known in the Poverty Bay District, and a member of the Federal Contingent and the Diamond Jubilee Contingent, was, at Colonel Wyndham’s suggestion, busily engaged teaching the Imperial troops the Maori dances, in which they are keenly interested. Taranaki accompanied the troops from Napier for this purpose. Colonel Wyndam has been presented with some fine native mats, “koroais,” and dresses, and it is proposed to utilise them on the voyage home, when a competition will be held and a prize given for the best hakas.
The Imperial men are absolutely delighted with Rotorua, and they state that they have seen two wonders of New Zealand, the hot springs and Mr Seddon.
