Pakarae Races
There was splendid weather for the Pakarae races, which were held on the Pakarae beach on Thursday. There were about 300 people present, principally from the Coast, though the town was well represented.- The racing, was of an interesting nature, the fields being large and the finishes very close and exciting. The following are the results : Scurry—Banquet 1, Every Time 2, Jack 3. Banquet started at 4to 1. A good race ; won by a length. Flying Handicap—The Drone 1, Cronje 2y Mangabaki 3. The Drone made the pace a cracker from the fall of the flag, and won by a length and a. half. JL Pakarae Cup.—Cronje 1, Killarney 2, The Drone 3. Cronje was made favorite at 2 to. 1, and fully ‘ sustained the confidence placed in him, winning comfortably by about a length. " ; -< ■ Hack Race.—Hurunui 1, Ladysmith 2, Crazy Jane 3. Hurunui started at 3to 1. A splendid race. County Stakes. —Tapuhera 1, Malcolm 2, Mangahaki 3. Betting: ; 3 to 1 Tapuhera. An. exciting race, won by a neck, rest close up. Forced.—Killarney 1, Malcolm 2. Betting: Even money Killarney, A good race, woo by a length.
