The King and Queen visit Copenhagen in March, after visiting the Empress Frederick and the Kaiser.
The King has made the Queen a Lady of the Order of the Garter.
The Tunes states that the Ophir will be commissioned in March. The cruise will occupy six months. Then 1 Royal Highnesses visit Gibraltar, Malta, Colombo, Singapore, and all the Australian colonies, two ports in New Zealand, one in each island, Mauritius, Cape Colony, possibly one of the West Indian Islands, and Canada. It is now reported that the extensive naval demonstration published yesterday was unfounded. It is alleged that the squadrons will be unable to maintain sufficient rates of speed. Nevertheless, sufficient war vessels will be assembled at each of the ports to give their Royal Highnesses a suitable welcome. Two Channel cruisers accompany the Ophir to Gibraltar, two of the Mediterranean squadron from Gibraltar to Suez ; the St. George and Juno escort them the rest of the journey. Melbourne, Feb. 14.
The cable message that the Duke and Duchess of York intend to go direct to Sydney has caused raucli surprise and disappointment. The Premier has instructed the Agent-General to see Mr Chamberlain and strongly urge that as the Duke, of York is coining specially to Melbourne to discharge an important commission, it is only right that he should como direct and make his official landing there, otherwise the plans will be upset and the people greatly disappointed.
