The Turf Club’s Challenge Stakes resulted : Fulminate 1, Ferryman 2, J enny Moore 3 ; 18 started, the winner being favorite with sto 2. Fulminate won by three lengths. Time 1.18. Club Handicap : Cordon 1, Rabatto 2, Lord Rudolph 3; 14 started. Betting, 3to 1 Typhoon, 5 to 1 Cordon. Won by three lengths. Tune 2.9:]. Received Feb. 14, at 12.34 a.m. Sydney, last night.
' A hurricane at New Hebrides on J anuary 24th caused great havoc to property and plantations. The damage is estimated at 150,000 francs. •' Though not officially ’announced, there are good grounds for stating that Mr Hickson, Under-Secretary for Works, will bo appointed President, and Mr Wilier, of tho City Resumptions Advisory Board, a member of the Sydney Harbor Board. A third member has yet to be appointed. The President’s salary is £2OOO, and members £IOOO. A strong southerly wind brought rain, and the weather was much cooler. There have been some good falls in the country, there being two inches at Brokon Hill. Arrived: The Moana. The racehorses landed in fine condition. Sailed: Zcalandia. Melbourne, Feb. 13. Sailed: Westralia. Another batch of invalid soldiers arrived by the, Nineveh, including the New Zealanders Captains Bartlett and Gregory, Sergeants Fox and Cromer. Brisbane, Feb. 13.
The Government, in offering further troops, stipulated no number. If tho Imperial authorities send a steamer thoy would endeavour to fill it.
