Staff-Surgeon Renger, an officer of the German Army, challenged, Captain Adams to a duel at Metz for an insult to Lieut. Renger, of the same regiment, the surgeon wishing to spam his brother a duel because the latter was married. Captain Adams was shot dead, and Renger was tried for the offence. Renger was sentenced to -twelvo years’ penal servitude, and was cashiered from the army. It was argued at the trial that Renger wished only to disable Captain Adams.
