The Contingents.
[By Telegraph—Press Association.] Wellington, last night. Ministers have decided to send more-troops to relieve those who have already served the period for which they enlisted. The first draft, numbering about 300, will be despatched in a month, and will be followed by others as soon as they can be got ready. Another medical man is' also to be sent.
The following New Zealanders are returning by the steamer Chicago, which left Capetown on the 6th : Farrier-Sergeant H. Spain, Fourth Contingent, Otago; D. Spencer, Third, Kaikoura; J. Warren, Fifth, Dunedin; D. Gignan, reserve, Auckland; J. MoKay, No. 1, Fifth, Clinton ; C. Wyse, Fourth, Otago Central; C. W. Frown,Fourth, Temuka; Woodward, Fourth, Dunedin; J. Watson, First, Cambridge; J. Farrell, Reserve, Kihikihi; C. W. Watt, Fifth, Dunedin ; F. W. Jones, Fifth, Wanganui; A. J. Wallace, Fourth, Shannon. A telegram reoeived by the Premier from Hobart states that the Karamea arrived at that port on Saturday with the following New Zealanders on .board, in charge of Colonel S. NewallFourth Contingent: Sergeant G. A. Boss, Shag Valley, Private W. M. Clunie, Wairoa, Hawke’s Bay; J. Gibb, B. C. Hopkins, Waipawa; C. A. Hirtzgill, Wellington; R. E. Lean, Havelock ; W. G. Morrison, Tapanui; J. G. Moore, Dunedin; T. Popham, Middlemarch; 25 Bundle, Whangarei. Fifth Contingent : Sergeant Gregg, Dunedin; Private J. G. Cooke, Wellington ; Bugler E. Dormer, Auckland ; J. Began, Auckland ; T. R. Horne, Methven ; A. E. Hayward, Normanby ; E. J. Stevens, Gisborne. There are also mentioned Somerville and Valentine, who -do not appear in the list of Fourth and Fifth Contingents, and the following, of whom several appear:—Privates Brown, Cameron, Harris, Hunter, Jackson, McDougall, McAuley, Riddell, Better, and Smith. All the above are well. Sergeant H. Challis, Fourth Contingent, Invercargill, and Private R. Searle, Fifth Contingent, Kakanui, are suffering from pneumonia, and have been received into the Hobart Hospital, The following New Zealanders, belonging to the South African Irregular Corps, are also on board: Privates Tait, Rowland, and McDonald, Brabant’s Horse; Private Keane, Roberts’s Horse; and Private Gibsons, British South African Police.
