Messrs Wyllie- and Mason announce a sale of town and suburban properties on Saturday next. Messrs Kennedy and Evans announce the arrival of 300 tons of coal, which is to be sold cheaply at the ship’s side. Messrs Common, Shelton and Co., and Wyllie and Mason hold an important sale of stock at Puhatikotiko to-day. Tenders are invited for additions to a dwelling in Bright street, particulars of which will be found in our advertising columns. A gang of men starts for the Motu district to-day to undertake Government work. Mr Elliott is in charge of the party. Mr J. Macfarlane has given notice to movo at the next meeting of the Cook County Council that the question of borrowing .£20,000 or £30,000 for necessary works be again considered. To-morrow morning the Collector of Customs, Mr E, W. I’asley, will at ten o’clock hold a public enquiry into the stability of the Grace Harwar, in accordance with instructions received from the Marine Department. Messrs Williams and Kettle will hold an important sale of stock at Bepongaere on the 20th inst., when, on account of Mr W. K. Chambers, they will sell 5100 sheep, 1000 head of cattle, and five draught horses. The young ladies who recently took part in the charming “ Snowflakes ” entertainment, and who have kindly consented to repeat the entertainment at the Waerenga-a-hika garden fete, are requested to meet at the Holy Trinity Schoolroom to-morrow evening at half-past seven. A sporting contributor writes :—“ The race-horses Moonraker, Pistol Grip, Honors, Countrybine, and Hinetapuariki have arrived from Wairoa in charge of Joseph Griffiths; Corydon and Bellweather, in charge of James Malone; and Weaver, Nukurau, Bed Bose, and Wilson have also arrived.
Our Karaka correspondent telephoned last evening stating that a large number of settlers were arriving from various parts of the district to attend the stock sale to be hold to-day at Puhatikotiko, and the fair promises to be one of the most important ever held in the district. At the bowling green yesterday afternoon several matches were played, In the full rink competition O’Meara, Wallace, Nichollas and McGowan (skip), with a handicap of 21 points, beat J. Eosie, F. Pettie, J. W. Hennessey and Gaudin (skip) with 14 points by 30 to 13. In the singles Cos, with a handicap of 30, beat Dison (8 points) by 46 to 26, but the former fell to Massey later in the afternoon in the colts match, the scores being 35 to 18. F, Pettie beat Eobertson, after a good game, in the handicap singles.
