Stock in Mew South Wales

BIG DECREASE IN HORSES. ALL-ROUND INCREASE IN CATTLE AND SHEEP. [By Telegraph—Press Association.] Sydney, last night. • The stock in the colony of New South Wales on January Ist was as follows : Horses, 443,500, a decrease of 6,500. Cattle, 1,816,000, an increase of 13,500. Sheep, 39,938,000, an increase of 3,724,600, as compared with the previous year. The decrease in horses is principally due to the export of horses for army purposes, and the increases of cattle and sheep are due to the better season and improved prices.

The lambing returns show that the lambs on the market last year were 8,738,000, an average of 67 l-6th, as against 5,717,000 and an average of 49 l-6th in 1899| though the increase of breeding ewes was only 10 per cent.
