“POVERTY.”

To hie Editor of the Times.

Sir, —The proposal of the Mayor to change the name of tho Bay from “Poverty” to “Victoria” has met with general approval. No one can reasonably defend the name “ Poverty,” and the name “Victoria” has now that to commend it which could not be found in connection with any other name. There is every hope that the first year of tho new century will see tho objcctionablo name of “ Poverty ” discarded. The Mayor should also take the Borough Council into his confidence in the matter, and if there are any who still desire the name of “ Poverty ” to be adhered to it will be interesting to learn who they arc.—l am, etc.,

Anti-Poverty,
