Mr John Coleman, Harbor Board auditor, has prepared the following interesting statement, showing the increase of revciiuo from harbor rates in the last five years. It shows how the valuations of tho rateable property of this district have been increased in tho period namod:— 1896 Valuation. Rate. Amount.

The above totals appear in revenue accounts as 1896, £2886; 1897, £2770 17s ~ 9d; 1898, £4835 15s 3d; 1899, £4851 16s ; 1900, £5015 8s 6d. The discrepan- ; cies are on account of differences in adjustment of Crown and Native rates and for European rates not collected.
