New Zealand Natives’ Association.

SMOKE CONCERT.

The smoke concert given at the Natives’ Association Club Rooms last night as a wind up to the cribbage and euchre tournaments was largely attended, and proved a most enjoyable entertainment. A capital musical programme was submitted, and amongst the most enjoyable items were recitations by Messrs Webb, Nicol, and Sheridan; a violin solo by Mr Cullen, and songs by Messrs Downes, Lowndes, Ledger, Mahoney, 13. Smith, SR. McNeil. “ The Lads in Navy Blue ” was splendidly rendered by Mr Ledger, who also made a great hit |in “ You’ve got a long way to go ” and in other comic numbers. Mr Downes sang in good style “The Death Sentence,” and Mr R. McNeil fairly brought the house down with “ That’s the difference between East and West.” Mr B. Smith put everybody in the best of humor with his two comic numbers, “ A little bit off the top,” and “The Economical Man,” both pieces being cleverly given. Mr McConville was particularly happy in his of “ That’s McCormick,” and was compelled to respond to an encore. Mr A, Webb recited in good style “ The Old Racehorse,’-’ and Mr R, McNeil met - with a good reception in his several numbers, particularly with “ What O, She Bumps.” Mr Mahoney received great applause for his songs “Dear Little Shamrock,” and “ Coming through the Rye,” Mr E. Parnell presided at the piano during the evening, being accompanied by Mr Cullen with the violin. The concert terminated at a quarter to eleven with the Einging of the National Anthem,
