News from Capetown states that two sensational arrests have been made. Casper and Jacobus, the latter being a well-known member of the Cape Assembly, have been arrested on a charge of aiding the Boers in the war. THE TIMES CORRESPONDENT'S OPINION. The Bloemfontein correspondent of the London Times, after describing the mourning in that portion of South Africa for the death of the Queen, states that however acute the bereavement is the predominant feeling is that every effort must more than ever be made to bring the South African war to a speedy conclusion. De Wet is now between Winburg and Ladybrand, but there is no definite information to hand as to his movements.

Murphy has died of outoric fever at Kimborloy. Privato AV. G. Earl, of tlio New Zealand Mounted Force, has been killed at Bvonkhorst Spruit. Lord Kitchoner and a' number of t roops precoodod iu a train on Wednesday in clio direction of Middloburg, preceded by an armoured pilot ongino. Tlio lattor was dorailod by dynamite near Balmoral
AVlion tlio troops arrived in the train a number of Boers opened lire, but woro repulsed with loss. There wero no British casualties.

Received Jan. 30, 1.28 a.m. London, Jan. 27. Boor commandos boast that since the womon and children havo been provided for they have no cares, and will continue to light with determination. Boors at Slyldip captured a train with cattle and provisions from Kimberley. Tlio British have sent an armoured train with 200 infantry in pursuit.
General Cunningham, at the Middlofontein fight, lost two killed and eleven wounded.
Great Britain has purchased Monte I'rere’s building at Delngoa Bay for fifty thousand pounds, for the use of Imperial officers. The .Boer prisoners now quartered at St. Helena number 18,135.
