Proclamation ceremonies were held at Edinburgh, Oxford, Cambridge, Liverpool, Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, Derby, Cardiff, Gibraltar, and Newfoundland, and drew large crowds. An immense crowd at Dublin sang “ God save the King” with enthusiasm.

By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. Received January 30,1.28 a.m. London, Jan. 27. King Edward has cabled that he is much touched by the sympathy of Canada. He has thanked President McKinley, adding that he had felt sure that he .and America would share Great Britain’s loss. . Tho Admiralty and War Office have issued the text of King Edward’s spirited address to the Navy, thanking them for their renowned services in the past reign. Recalling the Queen’s constant pride and keenest solicitude for the Navy, which the Duke of Edinburgh chose as a career, he adds : ‘‘l chose it as an early education "for both of my sons. The Queen, as Sovereign and head of the Army, had the warmest interest in the troops. The proud fact was that she was a soldier’s daughter." _ IHng Edward assures both services that he will be watchful of both their interests and he confidently relies on their unfaihng loyalty and devotion. . Th ! proclamation of the King occasioned intense enthusiasm at Capetown and India. There were ceremonies atCeylon, Jamaioa, and Channel Islands. A thousand children sang “ God Savn the.
