ROWING.

Last evening the first heat of the Poverty Bay Rowing Club’s handicap double sculls for Mr F. J. Oatridge’s trophies was rowed between C. Boyle and F. Fox (Bsec) and H. Bums and R. Moore (12sec). Both crews started off well. Burns and Moore’s handicap of four seconds giving them a lead of about two lengths, which their opponents had reduced to a length at Rees’. When the footbridge was passed both crews were level, and from this out a ding-dong race ensued, Boyle winning after an exciting finish by three feet. Two more heats will be rowed this even : ing, the crews being: C. Taylor and G. Brown (lOsec) v. H. Taylor and J. Parker (lOsec); and -J. Pool and B. Boyle (lOsec) v. E. File and J. Smith. The crews are requested to be at the shed at 5 o’clock sharp.
