TOLAGO BAY NOTES.
[By a Correspondent.]
The wo fill news of the Queen’s death is evidenced avound. Loyal citizens are draped in mourning. ,- The loss to the nation is immeasurable; ; -May our sincere and zealous love, arid the deep anguish of our sorrowful hearts, be turned to brightest beams of light,' that they,'may penetrate the Valley of Death, and so herald a'passport through the gates of IHoaven for our loving Sovereign, Queen Victoria, God bless her, We have had the most dismal weather of late. Cold, wintry. showers, intermittent with hail; seeming quite out of place at this season of the year. Our Jockey Club are laying down a plough track for the benefit of horse trainers. The annual March races are swiftly approaching. The date of the school children’s picnic is almost upon us again. A meeting of ladies to consider the provision department is called for the 31st. The children had to forego their picnic last year, in consequence of so many holidays in connection with the present war. The purses of the residents were fairly well taxed one way and another last year. A case of a rather startling nature, from the calling and standing of those concerned, will be before the Court shortly to be held here.
Our local medico, Mr Bowsell, whilst on an exploring expedition in the next bay to Tologa, called Koratuhci, distant about two miles, claims to have discovered a hot spring. We trust that it may prove permanent. No doubt a party will, be made up to go further into the matter, and.if a bath can ho mado of sufficient heat it will be of much importance to Tologa. The bay near which the spring is said to exist is. one of tho most picturesque on the coast, and very accessible, the' land in the vicinity being quite flat, with several rivulets flowing into the sea, and good fishing grounds. The land at present is in the hands of the Natives, and would make most suitable farms. May this matter r’eceive the earnest attention of the residents, so that if there be anything of im-_ portance in tho find it may be brought under the notice of the Government, and so add to the prosperity of Tologa,
