The issue of patriotic stamps in Queensland was a failure. - A meeting of St. Patrick’s Sports Committee takes place to-night. The Premier has refused a warm invitation to visit West Australia. Mr Thomas Adams has just received a supply of copies of the new Standard Dictionary. The Turanga Church Fete has been postponed owing to the death of Her Majesty the Queen. Visitors to Auckland will find excellent accommodation at Kidd’s Commercial Hotel, which has been considerably added to and refurnished throughout, A number of first-class horses will be offered for sale by Messrs Wyllie and Mason on Saturday next on account of Mr E. Thompson, of Waihora. A report of the recent lively meeting of the Whataupoko Road Board appears on the front page of to-day’s Times. On the fourth page a report of Saturday’s land sale is given. In another column Mr W. Pettie announces his candidature as a member of the Harbor Board. He has been induced to come forward by a number of the leading business people, and should receive a good deal of support. Mr F. Harris, one of the candidates nominated for election to the Harbor Board, notifies his candidature for the Board. He is an old resident of Gisborne, and has at all times taken a lively interest in local polities. A specially pathetic feature of the services at St. Andrew’s Church yesterday was that in the hymn ‘‘ Father in Thy gracious keeping,” the word servant had to be put in the plural, for in addition to the Queen two highly-esteemed members of the Church had died during the week. A special meeting of St. Adrew’s Christian Endeavor Society is to be held tomorrow night. The Rev. J, G. Paterson mentioned yesterday morning that it had been brought under his notice that Endeavor meetings aro to be held everywhere at about the same time for which the local one has been appropriately fixed. It is very desirable that a light should be fixed up at night so as to show the entrance to the Gisborne post office ground. On Saturday night it was a most vexatious thing for ladies, in heavy ram, to have to walk along by the fence, trying to find the gateway. In nearly every case, unless otherwise directed, the searchers would go to the wrong corner, Nominations for the Harbour Poai’d election closed on Saturday, there being six candidates for both town and country. Messrs A. F. Matthews, W. Pettie,' E. P. Joyce, W. H. Tucker, j. Whinfay, aijd F. Harris are contestirg the town seats, whilst the candidates for the country arc Messrs W. Cooper, F. J. Shelton, A. Y. Ross, A. Dewing, D. Dobbie, and D. Hepburn. The election will be held on February 11th. At the last meeting of the Whataupoko Road Board, Mr Joyce presented a petition urging the forming and metalling of Sheehan street. The petitioners were : E. H. Mann, G. A. Beere, G. E. Beere, J. B. Adams, G. Bull, L. T. Symes, Thos. Sweet, W. Tattley (per his agent, E. Chrisp), D. M. Orr, S. Springall, A. G. Beere, A. Skillicorn, E. Chrisp, J. Chrisp, F. Withers, J. Stevenson, and R. S.
