The Gisborne Times PUBLISHED EVERY MORNING. GISBORNE, JANUARY 26, 1901. THE HARBOR BOARD.
Nominations lor the four vacancies on the Gisborne Harbor Board close to-day at noon. So far the candidates who have definitely announced themselves are Messrs Dewing and Shelton, who stand in the interests of the country, Messrs Whinray, Matthews, Pettie, and Captain Tucker. The names of Messsrs Dobbie, Cooper, Hepburn, and Ross for the country, and Messrs Bright and Joyce" as representing the town, are also mentioned as those of likely candidates. Wa are pleased to note the renewed interest that is being taken in local politics, and the fact that several representative men have announced their intention of contesting the election is a gratifying sign that the honor attending the administration of local afiairs by our most prominent local bodies is to be warmly and, we are satisfied, fairly contested. There are many important subjects to be brought before the Harbor Board, necessitating the exercising of considerable tact and administrative ability on the part of members, and with such men as have been announced in the field, the general public can be assured that the intei-ests of the district will be left in the most capable hands.
