A correspondent, writing from South Westland, states that a tourist has just crossed from the Hermitage to Waiho, South Westland, in one day. It is described as the shortest and by far the most picturesque route across the range, and this points to the fact that if it were' more widely known it would become a regular thoroughfare for tourists in search of scenery of surpassing grandeur. The track is through fine bush country, while wonderful glaziers and splendid mountain views complete the scene of unusual beauty. Mr James M. Atken, a very old resident, died yesterday.
