THE IMPERIAL TROOPS.
THE NEW ZEALAND TOUR. [By Telegraph—Press Association.] Wellington, last night. The Mayor has received a communication from the Hon. J. G. Ward stating that the Imperial troops will leave Melbourne by the Britannic on the 29th instant for the Bluff. They embark at Lyttelton on the evening of the sth February for Wellington, and remain here till the morning of the Bth, when they leave for Napier. Mr Ward [asks that arrangements be made to billet a thousand men ashore for two nights, and provide accommodation for fifty officers at the leading hotels. These arrangements may, however, be altered according to the news received within the next day or two.

PROTEST BY MAYOR OF WELLINGTON,
[By Telegraph—Press Association.] Wellington, last night. The Mayor has informed the Hon. Mr Ward that while he would assist in the efforts which would undoubtedly be made to give the Imperial troops a warm welcome, he cannot call upon the citizens to pay for any part of this entertainment, as the troops had been invited here by the Government, and were the latter’s guests,
