The Gisborne Times PUBLISHED EVERY MORNING. GISBORNE, JANUARY 23, 1901. OUR QUEEN.
The bulletins received in regard to the condition of Her Majesty the Queen are still of an alarming nature, giving reason to believe that the end may come at any moment. The earlier reports received last night were of a hopeful character, but later on the tone became despondent, and it was made clear that any moment the sad message may be flashed through that our beloved Queen has breathed her last. Among the thousands of sympathetic tokens that have been sent it is probable there is none more touching than that of the Hon. J. Carroll and other Maorilanders in Melbourne, expressing their deepest sorrow at the illness of “ our white mother.”
