Frozen Meat Exports.
A summary of frozen meat exported from New Zealand during the six months ending December 31st, 1900, has been drawn up by Dalgetty and Co. for the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company. This shows that during the period named 40,084,7671 b of mutton, 4,549,8311 b of lamb, and 15,586,9331 b beef were exported, making the totals for the year —Mutton, 103,891,2691b'; lamb, 52,245,5171 b beef, 35,937,6651 b. Lamb and beef showed a substantial increase on the exports for 1899, but mutton fell away considerably, the return that was recorded in that year being—Mutton, 124,127,6261 b ; lamb, 45,242,7081 b; beef, 19,622,4261 b. Wellington headed the list in mutton and beef export in the last six months with 11,847,5841 b and 4,137,2291 b respectively, while Lyttelton was an easy first in lamb |with 2,120,5771 b. The frozen meat sent from Gisborne during the period under review was :—Mutton : Carcases 58,219, legs 54,794, pieces 38,848. Lamb : Carcases 3534, beef (weight in pounds) 1,165,6931b5. In the weight of mutton exported Gisborne was responsible for 4,097,077 lbs, and ranks fourth on the list.
