Bowling Notes.

OUTSIDE OPINION. The Auckland Observer of Saturday has the following notes: — Newmarket got a nasty beating from Gisborne—3o to 10. Rather a surprise to most of us, after the form they were showing. It only goes to prove the uncertainty of bowls. Ponsonby did no better, 30 to 8 being the finish. A great drubbing for a team of their calibre. No doubt the boys were killed with kindness. One cannot say “no” under the circumstances.

Our boys are back from Gisborne after a heavy week’s work. They all enjoyed the trip, and have only good things to say about our brother bowlers at Gisborne. All and sundry did their very best to make the meeting a memorable one, and the hearty cheers that were given for the entertainers was proof positive that there were no dissenters.

Hurrah for Gisborne! They won the biannual Champion Fours Tourney, and well deserve it. A nicer lot of bowlers could not be found in New Zealand. Good sportsmen and gentlemen, tfiey have won the respect of the many clubs they have met, and their win is most popular. Talk about enthusiasts at bowling greens ! The way the Gisborne ladies turned out to the greens at the Tournament was a sight to see,and the way they clapped their dainty hands for a good shot by their own team and the Gisborne team with the horrible Maori name was enough to make even the Newmarket adies envious. 1 = :
