Death by Drowning.

John McMaiion, a laborer, was found drowned near To Karaka yesterday morning. McMahon was in the employ of Mr Price, at Waihora, about three miles from Te Karaka. He was about thirty years of age, and had only been in tho district three or four months. So far ns can bo learned he was single. On Sunday night he wont eel iishing, and travelled up the Waihora river for some distanco. Not having put in an appearaneo in the morning, Mr ltiee went in search of him, and eventually tho unfortunate fellow was found in a hola in a creek, in which the water would have reached about to his knees. There was nothing to show by what means he had come to his untimely end, and it was thought that he must havo fallon in tho water in a fit, and in that condition of helplessness passed away. The body was romoved to the Karaka Hotel, where an inquest will bo held at 9 o’clock this morning by Mr Julius Crasar, J.P. LATER INFORMATION. A SAD ENDING. Our Karaka correspondent telephoned last night that Constable Farmer had returned from the 6ccne of the death of the unfortunate man. From the appearance of the body and tho surroundings, McMahon had evidently been going home, and in the darkness he fell over a cliff, a fall of about 30 feet; then, in a dazed condition, he had groped his way about and had fallen into the hole. Tho stem of his pipe was in his mouth, and the fishing line was lying by. The man lmd an ugly gash on the head, bearing out tbe theory that he had fallen. Ho was a quiet and reserved man, almost a stranger at tho Karaka, but he had, prior to being employed by Mr James Price, boon for a long poriod in tho employ of Mr Joseph Price. A brother of the deceased resides at Tologa Bay ; _________
