ACCIDENTAL EXPLOSION OF A MINE. A NEW ZEALANDER KILLED. INQUIRIES FOR DE LA REY. . THE BOERS REPULSED. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright London, Jan. 21. ■While covering with a grass trap a guncotton mine worked on a level with the earth, near to Zeerust, the weight pressed too heavily on the lever used for the purpose of firing the charge, which exploded, killing Lieut. Wallace (of the North Lancashire regiment) and Corporal Edwards (of the New Zealand Artillery). Eleven farmers have been arrested and brought in to Cradock for drilling and inviting invaders to continue their raids.
Native scouts have captured 400 horses at Wolochoep. Commandant Hertzogg, who is at Calvinia, is anxiously enquiring for General de la Key’s whereabouts.
Seven hundred rifles have been handed in to authorities at Carnarvon. The Town Guard and detachments of the Australians at Willowmore have repelled 400 Kruitzinger Boers.
