THE WELLINGTON MEETING. TRAINING NOTES. Wellington, Saturday morning. The Wellington Racing Club hold their summer meeting on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday next, and so far as can be judged, it promises to furnish some capital sport. The big event of the opening day is the Wellington Cup, for which race, after the final payment on Tuesday last, the following horses remained in : Wellington Cup, of 650 sovs; 1J miles.

The weather was again lovely at the Hutt this morning, and the tracks were fast. Fashion and First Blood jumped off at the five-furlong post on the plough. First Blood drew away in the straight and ran to the winning post, ridden out, by himself in 1.3. He ran the half-mile in 50secs. Scottish Minstrel was better than Windwhistle at about even weights in a half-mile flutter on the plough, run In 49sec. Hermosa and West Guard separately sprinted half a mile each. Tortulla and Boreas, the latter with bandages on his forelegs, were sent a measured mile on the plough. Tortulla had the chestnut in trouble at the home bend, and being ridden out finished a length off the black mare, who won in a nice free style. It was the best gallop as regards time recorded during the last few days, the mile being recorded in 1.44 J. Art Jewel easily held Shelter safe over five furlongs on the plough, the half mile taking 5U-

Queen’s Guard ran along six furlongs in a pleasing manner. This mare is looking very well indeed." Ostiak sprinted half a mile on the plough

Blazer walked up to the*six furlongs post on the outside of the racing track and was picked up by Battler at the four furlongs mark. He drew away from Battler at the end and finished five lengths in front of him, the time being 1.18 4-sth,. a slashing go. Blazer, however, finished very slovenly. Magnificent seemed to be going as well as Paladin at the end of a mile, but neither was ridden out. Advance, looking as well as ever he did, easily held Whitney safe in a mile gallop on the plough, the last seven furlongs occupying 1.34. Proposal cleared out from Cherrystone at the end of a mile. The former mare has been galloping splendidly of late, but Cherrystone seemed a bit off. Bed Gauntlet had the most to say at the end of a five furlongs spin with Canteen on the plough, which took 1.7. Strathnairn and Buamahunga were about even in a mile gallop on the plough. Skobeleff (Hewitt) by himself slipped over a mile nicely on the plough in 1.46. He is fancied in some quarters for the Cup. Gipsy Jack finished in front of Melwood over seven furlongs on the outside of the course proper, the journey occupying 1.37. Melwood bears a wasted appearance. Waterford had to be ridden out to keep alongside Sentry in a six furlongs gallop on the outside. Sentry finished well, and his time was 1.21. Robin Gray and Hiamoe, “ Brushei ” Woods’ pair of Maiden Platers, jumped off at the mile mark on the plough. Hiamoe was having the best of the gallop, two furlongs from home, but was pulled up and Robin Gray finished alone, ridden out. He ran 7 furlongs in 1.35.

Lighter tasks were executed by Spider, Cameo, Cruciform, Menschikoff, Dewdrop, Conspirer, and Ngatahuia.
