Ten thousand Capetown Crnards have been enrolled. It is expected that Herzogg will at-, tack the Hex river pass, which is strongly held. Commandant Meyer, with twelve hundred men and five guns, continues trekking north-east since his defeat at Krugersdorp. . . A big concentration movement is m progress in Bethel and Ermelo districts. One hundred Boers looted Sutherland, and retreatod northwards. Each of Kitchener’s fighting scouts has been provided with two spare horses, of which there are hundreds available. Matabeles are riding or leading for them. Kitchener has transferred twenty thousand troops southward. Lieut. A. O. Doxat, of the Imperial Yeomanry, a stockbroker, and son of Mr Edmund Doxat, chairman of Dalgety and Co., has been awarded the Victoria Cross for returning under ,a heavy fire to rescue a trooper who lost a horse during an engagement at Zeerust.
