ROWING.

Last evening the semi-final of the Poverty Bay Bowing Club’s handicap double sculls was rowed, the contesting crews being A. Pritchard and R. Jones, scr, and A. Russelland R. Kellett, Ssec. With a handicap of eight seconds Russell and Kellett set their opponents a very stiff task, and made the pace pretty warm from the start. When the footbridge was reached Pritchard and Jones were within a length of the leaders, who, rowing in fine style, maintained their advantage, winning a hard rowed race by a length. This evening the final will be rowed between D. West and J.-Newton, 6sec, and A. Russell and R. Kellett, Bsec, when a very close race is anticipated. Members who intend to compete in the next handicap double sculls, which are to be rowed in about a fortnight’s time, are requested to leave their names with the secretary this evening’
