[By Telegraph—Press Association.] Wellington, last night; As a result of their interview with the Post-master-General to-day (particulars of which have been telegraphed), the stewards of the Wellington Racing Club intimated to the Acting-Premier this afternoon that they will keep the racecourse telegraph office open as usual. The sixth contingent embarks on the Cornwall on Saturday, 26th inst., sailing for Auckland on that day. Private advices have been received to the effect that Trooper T. Martin, of the New Zealanders, died from enteric at Pretoria on the 4th inst. • ' N Some time ago the Railway Department decided tc raise the wages of its day laborers by 6d per day. Latterly the blacksmiths and boiler-makers have got a Bimilar rise, and now the Minister for Railways has decided to extend the • inoreased remuneration to all artisans employed at the Government workshops, This means an increased annual exganditura of £20,000,
