Beautiful Te Reinga

A Waip.oa Guardian correspondent v’rites: — I have often heard of beauty being sacrificed to utility. I am afraid this in a large measure is the case with the Te Beinga Falls and the bridges which cross them. The bridges must be an immense boon to the settlers on .the other side, but it seems to me that much of the beauty of the scenery has been destroyed and the road to Te Beinga is a caution. You progress in a vehicle by a series of bumps, being at times almost jolted out, and besides this, the little valley which used to be so charming is overgrown to a height of two feet or so with wild verbena (Griffin’s weed). So that the trip now to Te Beinga is not what it used to be.
