FIRE IN AUCKLAND.

TOTAL DESTRUCTION OF SEVERAL WAREHOUSES.

DAMAGE, £IOO,OOO.

A WOMAN AND BOY INJURED.

[By Telegraph—Press Association.]

Auckland, last night.

A fire occurred in Customs street this morning, causing the total destruction of several warehouses, the total damage being estimated at about £IOO,OOO. The fire started in Messrs Bond and Bell’s warehouse, and spread to Messrs Owen and Co., and Mr L. D. Nathan’s bonded stores, all three being completely destroyed with contents, as were also Mr Wheeler’s business in Nathan’s buildings, and Tucker’s baking powder factory in Owen’s buildings. L. D. Nathan and Co. are insured for £50,000 in the Norwich Union, and estimates the loss at £20,000 above that amount. Messrs Owen and Co’s insurance is £2,700, and Mr Wheeler’s £IOOO. •*

The other insurances are not ascertainable to-day. The firemen were quickly at work after the outbreak, but were unable to suppress the flames, there being some—trouble with the water through the bursting of a main, and Balt water had to be used, the accident causing considerable delay. A woman and a boy were injured by the falling of a telegraph post, the latter seriously.
