New Dairy Regulations.
INTERESTING RESUME. [by xe/.egbaph—press association.] Wellington, last night. The new regulations under the Dairy Industry Act, just gazetted, provide for the registration of all dairies which supply milk for consumption, and for the payment of an annual fee of ss. The air space to be provided for each cow in a dairy byre is 500 cubic feet; Byres shall be washed with lime inside, well lighted and ventilated, and provided with drains or gutters. Provision is also made for the thorough cleansing of all dairy buildings and utensils. The regulations are very explicit with regard to the mode of milking cows and cleansing of all utensils and premises immediately after milking. Milk is to be removed from the milking shed and strained and cooled to a temperature of not more than 65 degrees.
No person who is suffering from an infectious disease, or who has recently been in contact with such person, shall be permitted to milk a cow or take, any part in the distribution of milk. If any person employed about a farm is attacked by any contagious disease the occupier of the dairy must immediately notify the inspector, who, if he thinks fit, may order that no milk shall be removed from the dairy. Pigs may not be kept within a distance of 50yds of any cowshed or dairy buildings. It is illegal for any person to use milk from any but a registered dairy. Breaches of the regulations are punishable by a fine not exceeding £SO.
