Dunedin, yesterday. An enquiry into the case of Gustof Wahlberg opened at the Magistrate’s Court this morning. Mahlberg was a seaman on the ship Ziol, and deserted on November 21st. He was arrested and sent back to the ship. He fell overboard, and was drowned off the Heads on the day of sailing. His friends asserted that the man was unfit to send) to sea. The Star suggested an enquiry, whioh is being held. The evidence showed that the captain gave instruction to allow no one aboard, but if anyone attempted they were to be shot in the leg. A doctor who wanted to see Wahlberg was therefore refused admission when he came alongside. Witness, however, stated that everything possible had been done to save Wahlberg. The enquiry was adjourned until the arrival of the Ziol in port.
