In the course of an interview, Mr Seddon stated that the Duke of York is unable to accept the invitation to open the New Zealand Parliament, as Imperial legislation will be necessary to enable it to be done. The Yorks will make a good stay in the colony, as Lord Hopetoun has intimated that they wish to have arrangements made for meeting with the Maori chiefs. , [By Telegraph—Press Association.] Wellington, last night. The Hon. J. G. Ward has telegraphed to the Agent-Goneral: “ The colony proposes to give Maori chiefs an opportunity ’ of- meeting the Duke of York. Meetings will be held close to the large centres to enable the chiefs to visit and return in one day.”
