BOERS LOOTING FARMS

London, January 2. Large reinforcements have reached Middleburg, Somerset West, and Beaufort West. The cavalry is hemming in the commando, invading Eastern Cape Colony from north to south.
Every farm from Britstown to Carnarvon has been looted.
Members of the Afrikander Bond recognise that the raiders are simply marauders. Commandant Hertzgng, who was looting in the direction of Beaufort West, is in full Right, the cavalry pursuing his force. The Boers have penetrated south of Middleburg.
Lord. Kitchener’s recent proclamation does not apply to those surrendering on the battlefield or consequent on pressure from the British troops. General Knox has liberated and sent to their respective farms 76 farmers whom Be Wet coerced.
The British are protecting 973 Ottoshoop refugees at Mafeking. Boer ladies are being accommodated in hotels.
General Carrington in the Eastern Transvaal is pushing hostile bands in the direction of Swaziland.
