THE BOWLING TOURNAMENT.

THE TEAMS. Considerable interest is attached to The Northern Bowling Association’s tournament, to bo held in Gisborno next week, commencing on Monday, and there is every reason to believe that it will be a largo and important gathering. Mr C. H. W. Dixon, the local Secretary, has received a wire from Mr Mcntiplay, Secretary of the Association, stating that the following clubs will send rinks to the tournament: Auckland, Victoria, Wellington, Masterton, Palmerston, Napier, Ponsonby, Blull Hill, Hastings, Newmarket, and Mount Eden. The southern bowlers arrive on Sunday morning, and the northerners, on Saturday afternoon. The Committee will meet at 9 o’clock on Monday morning, and play will commence at 10. Two games will be played on Monday.

From Auckland we learn that the following teams have been finally selected ; Auckland: Dr King, Gilmour, Towsey, and Gorrio (skip). The President of the Association (Mr A. W. Thompson) will also accompany the team.

Mt. Eden: Garland, Hudson, Hooper, and Ross (skip). Ponsonby : D. Stewart, Sticbbury, Coutts, Brown (skip). Newmarket: T. Lawry, Ilaselden, H. Brooks, Kilgour (skip). Napier: J. 11. Swan, R. Bristy, J. G. Gilbert, E. Evans (skip). Bluff Hill: H. P. Newton, T. Carson, A. Kennedy, E. Crowley (skip). The pennant flag for which tho local Bowling Clubs competed, and which was won by Gisborne, has been received from Auckland by Mr J. W. Witty. It is a handsome piece of work, the dark blue background of the flag being relieved by a brown centre, on which the letters G.W.It. (Gisborne, Whataupoko, and Kaiti) have been prettily worked. At eaeh side of tho centrepiece, which also bears the name of the Poverty Bay Bowling Club, a cabbage tree has been effectively worked in. The trophy, which was donated by Mr J. W. Witty, will be presented to the winners at 10 o’olock on Monday morning, prior to the commencement of the tournament.

A change has been mado in the Gisborne team on account of Birss being unable to play, and Humphreys lias been selected to fill the vacancy.
