SEIZURE OF RUSSIANS

AUSTRIAN FARM PRODUCE PEOPLE NEARLY STARVING NEW YORK, May 26. Austrians had been reduced to a starvation diet as a result of Russian seizure of their farm products, livestock and other resources in violation of Soviet pledges, according to General Mark Clark, former commander of the American occupation forces in Austria, in a broadcast. “My protest to the Russian commander on this and other seizures was answered with the reply, ‘lt’s in accordance with the Potsdam Agreement.’ I say definitely it’s not in accordance with our agreements at Potsdam.” General Clark said that since the first Austrian election the Russians had been giving extra food and higher wages to Austrians who would join the Communist Party. He added that to be “firm and definite” with the Russians did not increase the chances of war. but on the contrary would reduce them.
