U.S. URGED TO ACT
PEACE WITH JAPAN HOOVER OPPOSES DELAY RUSSIA’S OBJECTIVES ■<lo a.m.) WASHINGTON. May 27. ‘‘Russia is delaying the rehabilitation of Germany and Japan as a means whereby the United States can be bled white by relief measures,” said Mr Herbert Hoover, a former President. “We should wait no longer,” he added. “Russia will not make war about it.” Mr. Hoover urged the United States to summon a peace conference with Japan immediately and make peace with Japan by as many nations as wished to adhere. The United States should immediately carry out the present project of a centralised German Government in the American and British zones and if the next Foreign Ministers' conference was unproductive she “might contemplate peace with this Government.” Mr. Hoover expressed these views in a letter to Representative John Taber (Republican. New York), on methods of restoring German and Japanese economies. Mr. Hoover said he favoured Congressional approval of the full 725,000,000 dollars requested as relief for Germany. Japan and Korea in the next fiscal year.
