SUCCESS AT SALE
MANUTUKE BREEDER DAIRY COW AT 49GNS. Outstanding success was achieved by a Gisborne breeder, Mr. IT. S. Rickard, Manutuke, at the annual combined Manawatu pedigree dairy female sale held at the A. and P Showgrounds, Palmerston North, last Thursday. Mr. Rickard had four cows and four rising two-year-old heifers entered in the sale. At the show preceding the sale he secured first, second and fourth prizes in the section for cows and second in Ihc heifer class. Competition was strong and the judge cornmen ted on the exceptionally high standard of the Gisborne entry. The first prize cow, Design Leila, attracted keen competition .when offered at auction later, and changed hands at 49gns., Iliis being the top price of the sale. Three of Mr. Rickard’s prize-winners were daughters of Glenmore Oxford Pride, senior sire at his Manutuke stud, and a son of Glenmore Peggy, v.h.c. producer of G3GIb. fat at four years in 305 days and unbeaten in ihc show ring, states a report from the Gisborne office of Messrs. Dalgety and Company, Ltd. Two of the placed cows by this sire were also prize-winners at recent Gisborne A. and P. Shows.
