MORE PERMITS SOUGHT
RACING IN SOUTHLAND CHURCH OPPOSITION (P.A.) INVERCARGILL. May 27. The Royal Commission on Gaming held a swung at Invercargill yesterday. After submissions had been made, by racing and trotting interests, the public questions committee of the Presbv tcry of Southland and individuals tlie comirrssion adjourned sine die. Representations were made by trotting c:ubs in the province holding totalisator permits for a iOO per cent, increase in permits—five extra days—and the Wairio Trotting Club submit ted evidence in support of its claims for a permit. The Southland Racing Club submitted that metropol tan clubs should have the rig,it. if thoy so desired, to delete 'rotting events irnin their rrogiarnmes. and the Eastern Southland Hunt Cub submitted evidence in support of its claims lor a permit. The submissions on behalf M the Southland Presbytery were : long the lines 1 hat the Government mist lace the duty of imposing a maximum restriction upon facilities lor organised gambling.
