GIRL AND MAN VICTIMS NEW YORK, May 10. A pretty girl university student and a professional beggar were pushed in front of subway trains in two separate murder attempts in New York. Bertha Pataky was standing on a platform when a young, well-dressed man stepped up and pushed her off into tho path of an oncoming train. It screeched to a stop only 15ft. from the terrified girl. The driver said he sensed something' was wrong when he noticed the uproar among the crowd on the platform.

The man who pushed the girl said, when he was arrested, that he did not know her.

“I was nervous and I don’t remember,” he said when questioned. He was imprisoned and is now awaiting police charges against him. Beggar Confesses In the second subway incident, 61-year-old Frederick Connors, a “blind” beggar (actually he has one good eye) was charged with homicide. He confessed that he had pushed Tradeau to his death. Tradeau was Connors’ “sceing-eye” in a begging racket partnership. The men had been quarrelling about splitting the day's takings. Connors said his partner wanted too much. The police arrested Connors as soon as lie told them lie had seen a man push Tardeau on to Ihe tracks. They suspected such evidence from a man who was supposed to. lie blind!
