“JUST LIKE CHICAGO”

TWO MEN WOUNDED MELBOURNE SHOOTINGS MELBOURNE, May 23. Two men were wounded last night when shots were fired in crowded Elizabeth street. Mr. John Gilligan, Melbourne, was standing outside an hotel near Flinders street when two men approached and spoke to him. One drew a pistol and fired four shots. Mr. Gilligan ran into the roadway and fell on the tram tracks. He was hit four times in the back and arms. A visitor from Sydney received a bullet in the right knee. The gunman was pursued and captured by a United States naval patrol. One American hit the man with a baton, another knocked the pistol from his hand, and a third grasped him round the neck. “Say. this is just like Chicago,” commented one American sailor.
