LABOUR M.P.’S PROPOSAL TAXATION CONCESSIONS CANBERRA, May 23. The Federal Parliamentary Labour Party has decided to seek an additional privilege besides an increase in members’ salaries from £IOOO to £ISOO annually. It recommended to the Cabinet that the present limit of £125 on the annual amount payable in “the Canberra allowance” be removed. This allowance, paid at the initial rate of 22/6 daily, is for the time spent in Canberra during sittings of Parliament. By a margin of one vote, it referred to the Cabinet, for consideration a proposal that members be given special taxation concessions for expenses in attending to the needs of their constituents.
