DEATH AT 80 YEARS

RETIRED MAGISTRATE MR. GEORGE CRUICKSHANK (P.A.) AUCKLAND, May 24. Mr. George Cruickshank, retired stipendiary magistrate, died yesterday at the age of 80 yeai's. Mr. Cruickshank, who was born in Papatoetoc, was admitted as a solicitor in 1890 and practised in Te Awamutu and Coromandel. He was appointed a stipendiary magistrate in the GoreLawrence district in 1901, and in 1908 transferred to the Invercargill, Riverton and Queenstown circuit. He retired from the Bench in 1929 to live in Auckland. Mr. Cruickshank was the author of “Magistrate’s Court Practice,” the first textbook on the subject written in New Zealand and the basis of the present standard work.
