FLOOD WARNING
HAZARD EAST COAST AREAS HEAVY RAINS FORECAST Seillcrs on (lie Gisborne flats were put on their guard last night by a broadcast weather forecast indicating the possibility of local flooding on the East Coast. Overnight weather conditions did not give rise to any alarm, however, and the Waipaoa River was only moderately swollen when an inspection was made this morning. Further information broadcast this morning indicated that the danger of flooding is most likely to occur during the week-end. with heavy rain developing this afternoon and probably continuing throughout the night, resulting in the probability of swollen rivers and streams. Acting on behalf of Mr. J. R. Hair, chairman of the P.B. Catchment Board, Mr. G. M. Newman last night contacted settler's at various points along the course of the Waipaoa River, asking for the usual co-operation in keeping the farmers on the Gisborne flats advised of. developments. Mr. Newman will continue these contacts throughout the danger period and will take the usual steps if the clearing of low-level land appears to be necessary.
