SMALLER OFFERINGS

FRUIT IN WELLINGTON VEGETABLES ALSO FIRM The smaller quantity of fruit offering in Wellington this week has had the effect of strengthening values in general, lines meeting a keener demand including all citrus, tomatoes, passionfruit, Chinese gooseberries, tree tomatoes, quinces and grapes. According to Townsend and Paul, Limited, fruit and produce merchants, vegetable prices also have firmed considerably, most improvement being shown in beans, cauliflowers, silverbeet, peas and marrows, while a good demand continues for beetroot, cucumbers, spinach, rhubarb and lettuce. Slow selling lines include pumpkins, swedes, pie melons, cabbage, . carrots and parsnips. Slightly less poultry has been offering and values remain firm. Larger supplies of (lowers have been coming in, the demand being very keen and the market showing a steady rise.
