Tripura State Famine
In furtherance of Ihe call by the united Baptist churches of ivew Zealand on behalf of the famine-stricken population of the Tripura State, in East Bengal, the congregation of the Gisborne Baptist Tabernacle will devote the whole of the offerings at Sunday s services to the relief fund, which will be administered by missionaries working in the East Bengal field. The famine threat has developed through the failure of last season's rice crop, which in turn was attributable to a very, wet season which prevented the planting of tne crop at the right time. Seasonal occupations supported the Christian community of natives in Tripura until February, but since Ihat month dire poverty has set in and the missionaries in flic field appealed to their home churches for aid The Baptist community lias invited Ihe aid of the. general puolic in meeting the call which is an uigent, one.
