ATTACK ON POINT 209 On the same occasion as Lieutenant Ngarjmu won his V.C., several other decorations were' earned by members of the Maori Battalion. Among these was the Distinguished Conduct Medal for Corporal' Wlwi Teneti for gallantry displayed in the attack on Point 209 on March 26. Corporal 'Tenet! is the .elder son of Mrs. Wi* Kururangi and the late'Mr. Wharc . Teneti, of Waipiro Bay atfd of age and was born at Waipiro Bay, wheie he attended the now native school. He was a member of the Maori Battad ion which sailed front Nd\V Zealand with the Second Echelon. Besides taking part in the, battles for Libya ' and Tunisia, Corporal Teneti saw action in Greece r and Crete,"'and during this stage, of Ill's army career lie was reported' miSSihg, but he eventually rejoined .his - 'unit, having escaped from Crete in a frail craft ‘ which took several days’ to reach an Egyptian' port. '
