Prominent members of the Congress Party, who had been released from detention, were re-arrested after a brief "period of liberty, reports the Caldutta correspondent of the .Exchange and Telegraph Agency. V- The Congressmen had been held under a defence rule, under which Gandhi and Nehru are detained. They .were released when the High Court, ■giving judgment on applications for 'habeas corpus, decided that the imprisonments were illegal. They were re-arrested under powers conferred by the Government by the old A-ule enabling the detention of persons suspected of engaging in sub,‘versjye a’ctivify.
