FLYING UNARMED
SHOT-DOWN AIR LINER NAZI CLAIM DENIED (10 a.m.) LONDON. June 4. The British Embassy and the Dutch Legation in Lisbon have issued a communique stating that the missing British air liner shot down by the Germans was flying unarmed and unescorted and was clearly displaying the commercial signs, say’s an agency message. This denies the claim made in a German communique that the Luftwaffe shot down two British bombers and one “transport plane," thus pretending that it was on military operations. The Portuguese people, the message adds, strongly condemn the attack by the Luftwaffe against a civil plane. A Madrid message says that there is no confirmation of the Rome radio report that a Spanish fishing vessel had picked up the survivors of the airliner.
