ORAKEI VILLAGE

A project put forward .some weeks ago by Princess te Puea Herangi for improving the Orakei Maori village in Auckland was commenced on Saturday when some 200 Maori and European workers from as far afield as Ngaruawahia erected a palisade along the frontage of the village site to the waterfront road. Extending 300 ft. along the front oi the marae, the palisade consists of £ two-foot concrete base, surmountec by pointed manuka stakes, with heart of totara posts at eight-foot intervals A carved gateway has been erectec in the centre. The concrete base i: later to be faced with pawa shells.
